Melissa Smith, DMD

Dr. Smith has been the owner of The Dental Office at Chestnut Hill since 2021. It was her pleasure to take over the practice from her colleague and previous owner Dr. Rodman Shale, whom she worked alongside since 2020.

Dr. Smith has a reputation among her patients for ensuring patient comfort.  Her honesty, excellent work, and gentle approach add up to a more comfortable dental visit for you.

Dr. Smith graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine and was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.  Dr. Smith grew up in Hudson, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Hudson High School.  She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Providence College.  During her time at Providence College, Dr. Smith received an All-Academic award while playing Division I Women’s Ice Hockey.  Prior to beginning dental school, Dr. Smith completed her Master of Arts degree in Biomedical Science from Boston University.

Dr. Smith is a certified member of the American Dental Association as well as the Massachusetts Dental Society and Worcester District Dental Society.  Dr. Smith attends continuing education events to keep her skills up to date.  She is an active member of the Spear Study Club which is an interdisciplinary collaboration of dental professionals who, like Dr. Smith, want to provide the very best care for their patients by sharing experiences and learning about the newest innovations in dentistry.

When not focused on work, Dr. Smith’s hobbies include exercising, snowboarding, and traveling.

 Lucas Patrick, DMD, MMSc

Dr. Lucas Patrick was born and raised in Indonesia before moving to the United States in 2001. He began his undergraduate education initially at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. In 2006, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. After Cornell, he attended Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine and received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2010. During dental school Dr. Patrick also received the Goldman School of Dental Medicine Dean’s Award and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Research for his pre-doctoral research in dental biomaterials.

Due to his strong interest in the surgical aspects of dentistry, Dr. Patrick completed an additional one-year of oral and maxillofacial surgery internship at Boston Medical Center immediately following dental school. After working as a general dentist for several years in Maine, he returned to Boston to further his education at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine where he earned a certificate in periodontics and a Master of Medical Science degree. In his free time, Dr. Patrick, who is a soccer aficionado, enjoys traveling and trying out new restaurants around town with his wife.
